Son style lyrique, sa sophistication harmonique, son touché font de Marc Copland une sorte de légende, un "géant" de son instrument

Il s'est produit notamment avec Joe Lovano, Wallace Roney, James Moody, John Abercrombie ou encore Gary Peacock. Après son numéro d'équilibriste en solo, il nous revient en trio avec notamment Drew Gress, nouvelle vedette de la contrebasse et Bill Stewart qui a fait école chez Metheny.
